Transportation

TRB's Workshop on Road Vehicle Automation will be held at Stanford University in Stanford, California. The workshop's two adjacent venues are Stanford Law School and Paul Brest Hall. Lodging is available on campus or in the city of Palo Alto.

You can reach the Stanford area from:

Note that travel times for both train and car vary significantly by time of day. A large portion of US-101 between SFO and SJC features a 2+ HOV lane.

The Palo Alto train station is served by Caltrain trains, VTA and samTrans buses, and Stanford's Marguerite shuttleTo travel from this station to the workshop venues, you can:

Attendees traveling from San Francisco may connect to Caltrain at either SF Muni's 4th and King St station or BART's Milbrae station.

...by Car (Parking)

Parking Structure 6, located underground at 560 Wilbur Way, Stanford, CA 94305, is a short walk from the workshop venues. Additional parking may be available in the Tresidder Memorial Union Parking Lot, located at 459 Lagunita Drive, Stanford, CA 94305. Detailed directions to and from each are available here

Guests of the Munger Graduate Residence can purchase a parking permit from the Munger front desk for $4.50 per day.

For other attendees, marked visitor parking costs $12 per day ($1.50 per hour until 4pm). Payment machines accept cash, VISA, and MasterCard. The machine in Parking Structure 6 is located near the elevators and requires that you input the particular number of your visitor parking space. 

Stanford honors any state's disabled person placards in the following parking spaces on campus:

  • designated blue spaces
  • service vehicle spaces (a posted time limit may apply)
  • metered (visitor pay parking) spaces
  • commuter ("A" or "C") and residential permit spaces
The nearest designated blue spaces are near 555 Nathan Abbott Way (reachable only from O'Connor Lane) and 536 Galvez Street (reachable only from Arguello Way, which connects Campus Drive to Bowdoin Lane). See the map below.

...by Foot and Bike

Stanford and Palo Alto are walkable and bikable, and bicycle rentals are available.

...by Campus Shuttle

Stanford's Marguerite shuttle provides free transportation on campus, to the Stanford Guest House, to the Stanford Shopping Center, and to Palo Alto's two downtown hotel, dining, and shopping districts (University Avenue and California Avenue). Lines operating during the workshop include C (Stanford Shopping Center), P (University Avenue), X (University Avenue), Y (University Avenue), N (California Avenue), and SLAC (Stanford Guest House).
